Directions for class for 11/04:

1. Finish outstanding elements from below.
2. See the responses here and (at TappedIn--the file is uploaded and featured in my office) of what last spring's Intel class said about student self-assessment.

3. See Wordle and iGoogle tools. Wordle(to make word clouds online). And iGoogle.com. These aren't "required" but just really cool!

4. Here are the Unit requirements for Portland State. You will need a finished Unit(gets uploaded), the Implementation Plan(separately and embedded on your unit), and two paragraph reflections. Here's the link to see.

Directions for class for 10/28:

:1. Meet in TappedIn, Jane's office, at 5 p.m.
2. Review what you still need to finish and upload from last week.(See below).
3. Respond to the Module 5 Topic on the Discussion in my office.
4. Be sure you have all the items below complete for class on Nov. 4, including the responses to the Project Argument and to each other, the student sample, the rubric for assessing it, a student support document(handout), your Unit Plan updated including the Accommodations for different learners, and be ready to start on the Implementation plan. Questions?
5. We will shoot for finishing up the Unit Plan on Nov. 4, and being ready to write the reflections required for Portland State on Nov. 11--and uploading then (???) I hope!! That should be our last class....

Directions for class for 10/21:

1. Work through pages 4.03 to 4.16 to develop your student sample. Look at examples from the class disk and/or the Intel website, http://educate.intel.com/en/projectdesign/Add whatever "bells and whistles" to the project example that you would reasonably expect your students to. Upload your sample to your wiki page. Please name it with your name or initials as part of the name--so we can easily identify it.
2. Sometime during class time, go and look at the Unit Plan and other unit pieces on your colleagues' wiki pages(the intro Powerpoint, for example). Then go to the Discussion page on their wiki page, and do this 3-2-1 on their unit, this far:
a. Ask three questions
b. Make two comments or observations.
c. Provide one suggestion
.3. Go to the Project-Based Learning Argument page on the wiki, and add two reasons for using projects in the classroom. Put your initials in parentheses after your reasons. Save the page with your additions.
4. Once you have your student sample uploaded, go to Module 5, and work through the Assessment Plan p. 5.05-5.16, and do the rubric for your Student Sample. Upload it also to your wiki page.
5. Then go to p. 6.05-6.13 and create a student support document. One you will most likely need is a Word document explaining the student project for which you just did the sample. I suggest you do that. Upload that to the wiki page if you complete it
.6. Update your Unit Plan and put the most current version on the wiki.
7. FOR NEXT WEEK: decision on class: Class Tuesday? Meet Wed. in TappedIn? To get done next week:

A. p. 6.02- 6.04: Accommodations for different learners, and any pieces above not complete.
B. Implementation Plan(I will give you one to adapt for your project)
C. Work on completing the Unit Plan.

Directions for class for 10/14:

    1. Go back and complete Module 2, Activity 3-5, p. 2.10--2.24--the Assessment piece and the introductory powerpoint..Upload any assessment samples and your intro ppt.to your wikispace page. Please name them with your name and the date, so we can keep straight whose is whose. Link for Intel Assessing Projects pages: Click here
    2. HOMEWORK: We will then start the group assignment below. Begin tonight by skimming through the article and making some notes about what is good about Project-based Learning.
    3. Use p. 3.03 as a guide. Since there are so few of us--and you will blog responses to those questions(and to each other) on my office at TappedIn. You can find and bookmark my office by doing a Tapped In People Search for Jane Kurczak, and then go to my office from the page that comes up.
    4. Follow the guidelines on p. 3.07-3.17, and HOMEWORK: locate some resources to use on your unit. List their urls on your unit plan under Internet Resources(near the bottom), and make notes in your book of ways you will involve the students in using the Internet in your unit. You can use the spaces provided in these pages fo your book, or use p. 3.17-3.18 or 4.01. Then summarize them briefly on a new blog entry in your Tapped In office, based on p. 3.18.
    5. TO BEGIN OCTOBER 21:Finally, you will work through pages 4.03 to 4.10 to decide what sample student project you will develop. You will begin it tonight, p.4.11-4.14, and finish it next week. Really do some thinking before next week so you will be able to complete this student sample.
    6. Before you leave tonight, re-upload your unit plan in its current state.

Directions for class for 10/7:

  1. Look at sample unit portfolios, from both the CD and the Intel website (see directions on p.1.20, and then look at the resources on Higher Order and 21st century skills on p.1.30). Make a note of any units you find interesting. Then fill in answers, so far, about your projected unit on p. 1.29-1.30, and page 3.04) .You can click to their website with this link: http://educate.intel.com/en/projectdesign/
  2. We will then look at Copyright, Fair Use and Source Citation on. p.3.05-3.06, and the Copyright page here on the wiki.
  3. We will then come back and look at Curriculum-Framing Questions, and look at each other's unit ideas and make suggestions.(handouts).
  4. We will then look at the group assignment below. We will develop this page together in the next couple of class sessions.
  5. Then we will use p. 3.03 as a guide, since there are so few of us--and you will blog responses to those questions(and to each other) on my office at TappedIn. You can find and bookmark my office by doing a Tapped In People Search for Jane Kurczak, and then go to my office from the page that comes up.
  6. Finally this evening, you will go back and work on Module 2, Activity 3-5, p. 2.10--2.24--beginning the Assessment piece.

Directions for your individual page on the wiki for 9/30:


  1. Add a title for your page. Add a graphic or a movie. See this page on another wiki for some quick info on what the Wikispaces Toolbar buttons do.
  2. Add a paragraph in which you describe the unit you are considering doing. Describe the nature of the unit's content, the grade level, the projected time to be used. Look at the list of 21st century skills(Noted from the disk on p.1.30-1.31, and on this wiki here), and add some of those that you think your unit may address. Before the evening is over, come back and add your Curriculum-Framing Questions on the page(you can add them to your unit plan, now or later)..
  3. Upload your unit plan as a doc to your page. Before you do, fill in the top info on it, add your SOLs(see p. 2.01-2.04) and save it. Then name it with your name and the date as: jkurczak-09-30 so we can tell whose files are whose!

WIKISPACE We will use this wiki as a place to "store " and share files with each other(can be used in place of a flashdrive!), and later to Showcase Units. If you want to use the file structure of the folder system, right on your wiki page, I have set up a Unit Portfolio Model(in the left navigation) that you can just copy and paste to your page.
WIKISPACE DIRECTONS:
A. To get on this wiki, click the "Join this wiki" button at the top of the page, and create a wikispaces account, if you don't already have one. You can go back and make your own wikispace later here, if you decide that is something you can use.
B. I will approve your joining. Then you can make yourself a page, naming it with your FirstName_LastName. Then put your name on it as the title.
